Surprise, surprise; another invisible symptom - Parkinson's can cause eye- and visual issues.
The slowness or reduced movement associated with Parkinson’s can affect how you move your eyes, which can cause difficulty reading, focusing or it can cause double vision. I get double vision a lot, especially when I am tired.
.
Blurred vision is another one. I recently learned that mine was caused by dry eyes, although it never crossed my mind that my eyes were dry. My optician recommended that I wear a warm eye mask for 10 minutes a day. I made one that I filled with rice and that I heat in the microwave. After wearing it you're supposed to massage your eyes to help the glands express the clogged oil.
The ability to judge the space around you or between objects (visuo-spatial orientation) may also get affected by PD. This type of problem tends to be more common if Parkinson’s affects the left side of the body. I often misjudge the space around me and bump into doorways or people I pass.
Other eye problems include hallucinations, illusions, excessive blinking, tired eyes, colour vision and contrast sensitivity and involuntarily closing of the eyes.
