R is for ROCK STEADY BOXING AND RUNE! @runevethe
Rune was one of the first friends I made in the Parkinsons community. Rune was diagnosed in 2009, and thanks to him we have Rock Steady Boxing in Norway that (also thanks to Rune) I (eventually) joined. 🥊🥊
Unlike me, Rune was totally into sports before PD and he is a perfect example of a friend I probably wouldn’t have made without our common diagnosis, that I am very grateful for.
Rune is an inspiration, a great motivator (or pain in the butt) and an excellent YOPD ambassador. He is my favourite boxing buddy (although I perform worse around him because his skills intimidate me 😜)
Rock Steady Boxing (RSB) is a non-contact fitness program designed specifically for people with PD. Founded in 2006, by a young onset patient who wanted to challenge his disease, its origin comes from his personal regimen designed by a boxing trainer. Today there are over 450 RSB programs around the world. Boxers condition for optimal agility, speed, muscular endurance, accuracy, hand-eye coordination, footwork and overall strength to defend against and overcome opponents. At RSB, Parkinson’s disease is the opponent.
The most dedicated RSB Oslo people meet 3 times a week (my current goal is once a week) for an intense and tailor-made fun and exhausting workout led by the legendary coach Johnny Carlsen. 🥊🙏🏼
