J is for Jules

Jules. One of my all time favourite people in the whole world. My amazing personal trainer. My neighbour and good friend. Jules magically appeared one day in our street, with a small one-man gym. His gym was not like any I had ever seen, he had flowers and tomato plants, antiques and a barbecue.

I observed him from a distance for a while - after all I didn’t feel like I was in his target group. But fast forward a few months - I built up courage to book my first appointment and try a workout. And never looked back. Jules was there when I first started noticing symptoms, he was one of the first people I told about my diagnosis. I had worked out a few times, but this is when we really started getting serious about it. Having a trainer so close by I can run down in my slippers in the morning for a quick session before work makes it so easy. And Jules has never treated me any differently because of PD, but he also knows the fine balance between motivating me enough and not pushing me too hard so I keep coming back.

I don’t know how I would have done it without Jules. This open-minded, kind-hearted, creative, funny, considerate, non-judgemental, sweet, generous, knowledgable, interesting guy has made a huge difference in my life, my family’s life - and in our local community.

He came to Norway from Australia and I hope he never leaves. Jules is not only an excellent fitness instructor - he has background from the Australian Navy, he is a certified swimming instructor, he is a youth mentor for kids who are at risk of radicalisation. He is the janitor of a huge apartment complex in our street, he is an excellent gardener, and area responsible for Foodora (restaurant delivery service). He makes excellent YouTube content and recently drove an ambulance to Lviv, Ukraine not once but twice to deliver medical equipment and transported 23 refugees safely to Norway.

Jules, you are amazing and you make a difference in our lives. And no one can train me better than you do. I am so grateful to have you in my life. Lucky me! 🥰🙏🏼
